About Us

We are focused on providing community minded events

The Carcassonne Community Center is a vibrant hub for events and activities focused on bringing people together to promote unity, learning, and fun.

Our community-focused events are designed to celebrate local culture, foster positive relationships, and support the needs of the people in our community. Everything that happens in this building happens because neighbors decided it should.

Starting as a Boarding school in July 1924 and was Incorporated in 1969 for the purpose to work for the general community and for the betterment of the Carcassonne area of Letcher County, Kentucky.

More than a century after Carcassonne Boarding School opened in July 1924, and more than half a century after the community center was incorporated in 1969, that purpose has not changed. The center is still owned by the community, still run by volunteers, and still open to anyone who walks through the door — for a square dance, a funeral dinner, a reunion, a music lesson, a meeting, or simply because there is nowhere else nearby to go.

We are a rural organization in a county that has lost population, jobs, and services, and that has weathered catastrophic flooding. What Carcassonne has held onto is people who show up. This center is the room where that happens.
